Cerberus

Who?

Cerberus, known as ‘The Hound of Hades‘ guards between the realms of Hades and the dead. In close proximity to where the gluttonous reside, tormenting the souls that occupy the area. Cerberus is the monstrous child of monstrous parents, Typhon and Echidna.

What?

Cerberus is a three (maybe fifty, or several hundred) headed dog, with serpents covering its mane, and eyes that have been rumoured to have the ability to turn one to stone.

When?

Depictions of Cerberus can often be referred back to early Greek/Roman literature. There is a story of Cerberus and Hercules, where the latter is commanded to steal Cerberus from the underworld, and to take the beast up to earth.. After the descent, Hades approached Hercules and told him that he could take Cerberus, as long as he attempted to do so without his weapons. As the story goes, Cerberus poisoned the ground with it’s saliva, once taken up to Earth, which created the poisonous plant Aconite.

Pro Tip:

If you see this puppy off of it’s leash, then say your final goodbyes, because you are literally about to ‘give a dog a bone’ (or many, many bones).
